Throwing Panoramic Ball Camera is a new industrial design concept and intellectual property which can also be titled as “A Diploma-winning Thesis”! Various geeks will call it with a zillion names but it’s obvious that it should be shortened in the future by its developing team!
Application the camera is very simple and fun. All you have to do is to stand on a wanna-be captured ground and throw the the camera into the air! At the highest point of flight, the camera(s) capture the whole area by the help of a built-in accelerometer which is used to measure launch acceleration. Integration let it predict rise time to the highest point, and it triggers the exposure to capture with 36 fixed-focus 2 megapixel mobile phone camera modules. Then, you can easily transfer your panoramic photos via USB.
Jonas and his team has used two micro-controllers (ATtiny24 and AVR UC3B) and 36 STM VS6724 CMOS for the hardware. And the software has coded with C, C++, Qt and OpenCV. Other members of the project are Kristian Hildebrand, Carsten Gremzow, Bernd Bickel, Marc Alexa. The patent is pending.
