300 Artists, 500 Artworks in Istanbul Summer Exhibition…
Istanbul Summer Exhibition was organized for the first time this year inAntrepo 5-known as”the Art Port”- on between June 8 and July 15. It covers more than 500 works of 300 artists related to any field of Turkish Contemporary Art. It has found a niche in our minds as a new art platform.
The exhibition was inspired byThe Royal Academy Summer Exhibition which has been being organized for243 years in summer months and considered as one of the most important art events. Istanbul Summer Exhibition, organized with the permission and support of Royal Academy, has the same aim and approach with The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, which is to bring famous and competent artists and young talents together under a single roof without any hierarchy. The exhibition has successfully achieved its purpose this summer.
The exhibition has many important aims, such as to introduce Turkish Contemporary Art to both Turkish people and the world, give art lovers the opportunity to purchase art works in a wide range of prices and support artists who couldn’t get into galleries and attend exhibitions. The art works in the exhibition was chosen by a jury which includes people such asprint artistand the President of Royal Academy Schools Eileen Cooper,Royal Academicians the Painter Stephen Chambers,Sculptor Ann Christopher,Photograph Artist Tristan Hoare and Architect Gökhan Karakuş. The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition traditionally organizedin Londonsince 1769has 1200 art works chosen among 12000 pieces every year. Istanbul Summer Exhibition continues the tradition by presenting 500 pieces.
Having Deniz Huysalfrom TimeOUT Türkiye andAziz Karadeniz fromBeyazART as organizers,Royal Academy’s CEO Charles Saumarez Smith andRoyal Academy Trustee Lady Judge Thomas as Honorary Presidents, the exhibition was curated by Gökhan Karakuş. It also gave place to architecture, considered as another branch of art and contributed to the future plans related to architecture, letting the architects emerge their artistic characters.
In addition to the works of architects such asUras+Dilekçi Architecture,Gökhan Avcıoğlu,Nevzat Sayın,Nilüfer Kozikoğlu,Alexis Şanal, Murat Şanal,Boğaçhan Dündaralp andCanÇinici; the model ofEAA‘sKağıthane Ofispark project, digital images of Hayal-et Yapılar project ofCem KozarandIşılÜnal which covers historical buildings that exist no more, Anıtkabir with minarets byExtra Mücadele, digital prints of Nef Flats 163 project byAutoban212, 15 notebooks kept byKerem Erginoğluin the course of time, lithographic prints of Kartal main plan project byZaha Hadid, the drafts of the tower planned to be built in Levent and designed byRichard Rogers, the utopic offer on the building planned to be built under the Taksim Square byIshtiaq Rafiuddin andHenrik Schulte worth seeing.
