John Henshaw Architect has designed MacDonald Residence in the affluent neighbourhood of Kerrisdale located in Vancouver, Canada.
The house was designed on a higher grade of the road slope and was built to allow south facing views of water and the woods. This higher grade situation maximizes sunlight and allows the gain of the solar energy. Wide roof provides shading for the sun.
The floor plan gives an open concept for form and function. With Glulam beams that support solid timber roof that remains exposed, giving a dramatic effect and focal point on the outdoor living space. The energy efficient wood casement windows have a low-e double glazing and the ventilation system provides filter fresh air with heat recovery.
