California Roll House by Violent Volume

Korean practice Violent Volume have designed a futuristic, modern, sustainable, prefabricated desert housing project called “California Roll House” that self-adapts to its extreme environment.

A carbon fiber truss frame system is designed to support the extraordinary wrapping form, providing a lightweight and strong skeleton on which a solid exterior shell is attached to reflect the intense sun rays.

Bending form of the roof oozes to ground and transforms itself into an entry courtyard, creating an artificial plane.

Transparent glass panels change opacity automatically with the angle of the sun to absorb the night time coolth and reject the daytime solar gain.

The only entrance of the house is provided by an hydraulically-powered blended door.
