Gethsemane Lutheran Church

Olson Kundig Architects refurbished Gethsemane Lutheran Church have been operating in an existing 1950s building.

The design for this richly complex project enhances the Gethsemane Lutheran Church’s already significant presence in downtown Seattle by updating an existing 1950s building and integrating it with the other programs such as worship, housing and social services.

Olson Kundig Architects led the remodel of the building’s exterior and the church’s main sanctuary, as well as the design of the chapel, garden, and the Parish Life Center. Executive architect SMR also led the design of the affordable housing units and the Hope Center.

Multi-colored metal and glass bands weave the varied programs into a single visual tapestry. This reflects the sincere atmosphere of the chapel.

  1. Thanks for the article.

But – it would be very nice hearing about such a project in Turkey…
It might also be a catholic or orthodox church, that should’nt matter. What, e.g. about good old Hagia Sofia?

  2. Thanks for your comment. We will look at the similar projects in Turkey and write articles about them as soon as possible.
