Hang: The UFD(Unindentified Flying…Drum?)

How cool is that flying saucer like looking percussion!

This idiophone class(A musical instrument which creates sound primarily by way of the instrument’s vibrating, without the use of strings or membranes) musical instrument was created by Felix Rohner and Sabina Schärer of the PANArt Company in the year 2000. It produces such a dreamy polyphonic, almost hypnotic sound.

It comes from Bern, Switzerland and is one of the youngest instruments. In the Bernese language, Hang refers to the human hand, as in”hand-drum”. This percussion instrument is comprised of two metal hemispheres bonded together: the DING side and the GU side.

There are many Hang models with various modes(musical note scales) proposed by PANArt. You can customize your own note system too, if you will.
