As you may know, first observed in 1976, every August 13 is designated International Lefthanders Day by Lefthanders International. As its name suggests, it is meant to promote awareness of the inconveniences facing left-handers in a predominantly right-handed world. With the dominance of right-handed products, hidden-rules and even some interventions since our childhood, left-handed people are always having some problems during their every-day life. As a fact that their uniqueness and difference, who are from seven to ten percent of the world’s population, many left-handed people are discriminated against today’s society and are forced to use right handed tools (scissors, knives, rulers etc.), drive on the right side of the road (mostly), and even get harassed (do you know that in some cultures, left-handed children are forced to use their right hands while their left one is tied?). International Lefthanders Day is made to end this discrimination.
