Solar Impulse Aircraft has flew 1500 miles without a single drop of fuel

Incase you have missed it, this month (in 04.06.2012) an aircraft which designed to fly with usage of only solar power, has managed to fly straight through Gibraltar. How cool is that!

Designed and piloted by Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg, the Solar Impulse aircraft has made a trip of two legs. The first leg of the trip was piloted by André Borschberg from Switzerland to Spain and the second one was by Bertrand Piccard to Morocco. The plane has travelled over 1,500 miles without a drop of fuel.

The Solar Impulse has 12,000 solar cells on its wings that are capable of powering the plane’s four 10-horsepower engines. Even though the Solar Impulse gets its energy from the sun, it is capable of flying day and night without fuel.
