The day’s proceedings included an inexplicably shoeless Richard Branson rappelling down the facade with his family, chugging a magnum of champagne. The $209 million dollar Foster& Partners structure had been under construction for six years, having been fraught with delays throughout. Though the firm has much experience building complex air travel buildings, the Spaceport apparently offered a unique set of challenges. Namely, there are no code or zoning laws when it comes to space travel.
