The project “Transversal expression” is granted ‘Best Apartment’
Catalan interior designer Susanna Cots has been awarded Best Apartment at the prestigious Internationa! Design Award Idea-Tops held in Shenzhen (China), one of the main emergent cities of Asian design.
“Transversal expression” is the name of Susanna Cots’ award-winning project at the Idea-Tops awards, which this year have also recognised the works of renowned international architects and designers as Jean Nouvel, Massimiliano Fuksas and LikeArchitects, among others.
According to the organisers of the Idea-Tops “these awards intend to promote collaborations and improve communication between China and the Western countries, and it is a pleasure to have Susanna Cots as a direct bridge with the city of Barcelona”.
In its fourth edition, the Idea-Tops awards have had the participation of 2,000 projects from 36 countries. The awards are promoted by three leading academic institutions in the Chinese design field: the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University and China Central Academy of Fine Arts and Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts. The event also has the support of the UNESCO and is organised by www.a963.com, the first portal among the architectural and interior design industry in China.
The Idea-Tops also represent an opportunity to attract the participation of the relevant names in international architecture and design and to build bridges with Asia. Throughout its editions, the awards have had the collaboration of big names in architecture and design worldwide, as Mark Hemel, designer of the Guangzhou Tower, the tallest skyscraper in China, or British-Iraqi architect, Zaha Hadid.
Susanna Cots’ winning project is the interior design of a house in Barcelona conceived as a wooden skin that transversally crosses the spaces of two book lovers.
Wood crosses the apartment vertical and horizontally creating a warm and emotional passageway and natural light that shines into every corner of the house, creating energetic spaces. Taking inspiration from slow philosophy, the rest of the house has been designed in white. The visual fusion with the exterior and with Nature has been carefully projected to connect with the emotions and sensations of feeling at home.
A career Consolidated abroad
Susanna Cots has developed part of her career in interior design in Spain, working on housing and contract projects. As many other designers, her studio is now opening new markets in countries where design is in full development, such as South America, the Middle East and Asia, among others.
After being finalist in these same awards in 2012, for Susanna Cots the Idea-Tops Awards represent her final international consolidation. Also, she has been finalist in international design events in the UK, as the SBID Awards of The Society of British Interior Design; and the FAD in Barcelona; and has taken part in ICFF New York (International Contemporary Furniture Fair) and Porcelanosa Interiores.
The addition of “Susanna Cots” and “design made in Barcelona” results in an established international projection: features in publications from over 30 countries, hundreds of results on the Internet and thousands of pictures and impacts published daily on the social media worldwide.
